Jackson 8 Month Old Pup with a Broken Pelvis Cathy, a Providing for Paws volunteer, was notified this afternoon of an owned dog being a victim of a hit and run, and was badly injured. Our Vice President, Lori immediately headed over to see what she could do to help, despite being on her way over to check on another owned dog that had been treated prior, for also being a victim of a hit and run, two days prior.
Once arriving, it was clear that the puppy, now called Jackson, was in a great deal of pain. We then got in contact with Jim, another volunteer for PFP, who headed over to check on the other dog that was hit by a car on Friday, while Lori tended to Jackson needs.
Jackson is an 8-month-old, Golden Retriever mix. The owner knew he could not afford to care for Jackson’s medical care and signed him over to our care so that he could get the treatment he needed. The witness to Jackson’s hit and run was able to provide us with a license plate number and description of the vehicle that hit him.
Jackson was immediately taken to Emergency Veterinary Hospital in Ann Arbor (EVH), with Jim not far behind him, with our other hit and run victim, Care Bear and her owner. Both were found to have broken pelvic bones, however Jackson’s was far worse of a break then Care Bear’s was. Care Bear was treated and sent home on pain medications after her second vet appointment in two days. Her owner could not afford much medical care for Care Bear. However, Providing for Paws covered enough of the expenses for Care Bear to be sent home on bed rest and stronger pain medications, after emptying her bladder and bowels, since these two items were the problem for the increase in Care Bears pain. Jackson was kept for observation since he took a very hard blow to the head, on top of the badly broken pelvis. Jackson will require surgery with a Orthopedic surgeon after he is released from EVH. We do not have a full estimate of care for his surgery; therefore his chip-in amount could in fact change.
We are hoping you will open your hearts and wallets to help us with Jackson’s surgery and treatment. Every dollar counts, and no donation is to small. Please consider helping Jackson with all his needs. Donations can be made on Jackson's You Caring Page.

MINNIE 8 Month Old Pup with Enlarged Heart Minnie is a very sick little 8 month old puppy. Her owner has called PFP to see if we would take her in because she can no longer afford the rest of her care. Minnie's heart is very, very large. She is retaining fluids everywhere, including her lungs. Our vet feels that the heart has gotten so large, it may have started to block her esophagus, because she does vomit some of her food back up, after she eats. The owner had all her medication, medical records and X-Rays this evening for her appointment with our vet (10-22-13). Although on medication, our vet felt that some of these meds are not doing what she needs and changed things up a bit. Our vet has advised us to seek a specialist in cardiology to find out why this very young dog is having such horrible heart issues. Our plan is to take Minnie to Okaland Veterinary Referral Services (OVRS) to find out what is going on with her heart. Referral completed and her appointment is set for, Friday October 25th with OVRS Dr. Riepe. She will most likely need testing such as ECG and who knows what else, to get diagnosis. We will need funds for the office visit and her testing. We set the chip-in amount $5000.00. However, if she needs surgery, this may not be enough funds to fix the problem, if it can be fixed. Chip-in amount could increase after testing on Friday. Any donations to help Minnie would be greatly appreciated. As we stated last week, we cannot take on cases like these, without public support. Not only for financial support, a foster will be needed as well for her. Her owner is young, has children and works two jobs. Not only can she not afford to pay for her care, she is very busy to take on a dog with special needs. Please consider to pledge your help, this girl needs it very badly right now.
